Our Story

UniqueMinds was founded by Alison Bean in 2016, following ten years as a Clinical Director for an Essex-based bereavement charity, where she founded and developed the Children’s Bereavement Service in 2009. With over 18 years of therapeutic experience, she has a wealth of knowledge working with complex mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress, depression, self-harm, eating disorders and anxiety, as well as presenting numerous well-being webinars and workshops.

Our Vision

Alison’s vision has always been that emotional health and well-being should be achievable for everyone, and as such has set out to support as many individuals as possible who are struggling with their mental and emotional health. Alongside an incredible team of passionate Counsellors and Psychotherapists at UniqueMinds, we support young people and adults in one-to-one consultations, public organisations, corporate companies and schools, making this vision a reality – across the UK and the rest of the world.

“I believe we are all unique, are born with the potential for growth and the capacity to embrace change. Therapy provides a space to talk and be genuinely heard; dedicated time to focus on what’s most important to you. These are elements of what I believe can make therapy incredibly powerful.

Though we do carry our past experiences, upbringing and patterns with us, we are so much more than that too. The aim of therapy is to expand our awareness, so that we can move beyond our patterns and experiences to make choices that serve us better. We can explore, in a safe environment, what makes your life meaningful, as well as what you would like to change.

My colleagues and I bring a similar, but varied work and life experience into helping people make meaningful change. It will be a privilege to help you on that journey.” – Alison Bean – Founder

I started counselling owing to common anxiety affecting my mood/quality of life and subsequent impact to family. In addition, was not sleeping, had regular nightmares, intrusive thoughts from traumatic incidents experienced etc. My anxiety is now to a far more manageable level (more uncommon than common), sleep better, far fewer nightmares, far fewer intrusive thoughts and generally happier/less stressed/better able to cope. Alison was a great counsellor and I felt comfortable to open up without any perceived judgement. Would recommend the service.
