Eye Movement Desensitatisation and Reprocessing Therapy

EMDR is based on the idea that traumatic experiences can become ‘stuck’ in the brain, leading to ongoing psychological distress. The therapy uses the rhythmic stimulation which has been proven to activate the brain’s natural healing process, allowing traumatic memories and distressing experiences to be processed in a healthier way. It has been found to be effective for a range of mental health issues related to trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, panic attacks and phobias.

How EMDR Can Help You

During an EMDR session, the Therapist will guide the client through a series of eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation while the client recalls the traumatic event. This process is designed to help the brain reprocess the traumatic memory, reducing its emotional impact and helping the client to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms. At UniqueMinds, our team of counsellors are experienced in delivering EMDR therapies for organisations, adults and young people, relieving symptoms of psychological distress.

Parsloes Primary School has engaged with Unique Minds for the past year.  The service is first class.  Teachers, Social Workers, and Parents have been very appreciative of the work undertaken by the service. Our counsellor Christine is always willing to discuss as appropriate any concerns she has so that as a school we can support the pupil within the classroom. She has also provided reports, as appropriate,  for Child Protection Conferences. Chairs have noted how valuable the reports are in assessing the needs of the children and formulating plans.

Pupils too, in some of their darkest moments have expressed how the service has helped them.

I can recommend whole heartedly accessing this service. I would welcome a conversation if you wanted to find out more.
